IN THE PRESS: OTR x TheSceneTO.Com x Exclusive Brands
13/MarThe Scene in T.O. is a new lifestyle website covering arts, culture, fashion, sports, and entertainment occurring around Toronto. Fashion contributor Jasmine Yeung scoured the city looking for the five trendiest clothing boutiques to write about their “exclusive” products. We are happy that Jasmine included our store in her group, and did a great write-up on new brands like Denham the Jeanmaker, Wrangler Blue Bell and Mother Denim. Special thanks to The Scene in T.O. and Jasmine for the positive words:
“My go-to place for the newest and latest in luxe denim, Over the Rainbow made denim-shopping an art long before True Religions began to grace the derrières of the masses. With 36 years behind them and many more to come (we’re sure), OTR is the city’s original denim guru. While I proudly boast a jean collection of over 50 pairs, with many a 7 for All Mankinds and Citizens of Humanitys circa 2000, before the many houses of denim that exist today even emerged, I am glad to know that I can always count on this one-stop-shop to continually introduce new names – this girl does not want her backside emblazoned like “everyone” else. New to the store (and Toronto) this Spring is Dutch denim brand Denham the Jeanmaker, Wrangler Blue Bell, and Mother Denim.
While Denham the Jeanmaker is relatively new to the scene – founded in 2009 by Jason Denham, the company has made big waves with their emphasis on quality and utility. Denham describes his and design partner Liam Maher’s creative process: “We look to the tradition from which denim emerged as a blueprint for developing (our) collection.” With over 20 years in the industry himself, Denham is committed to staying true to the integrity of denim.
Premium denim brand Wrangler first introduced its Blue Bell collection in 2004 in celebration of 100 years of Wrangler. The limited-edition collection sought to reproduce the first Wrangler jeans right down to the last detail. It seamlessly (no pun intended) blends Wrangler’s heritage with modern fits and washes.
With so many brands and styles saturating the market some may wonder, “Isn’t it all the same?” If you’ve been introduced to Mother Denim, the old saying “Mother knows best” probably takes on an entirely new meaning. The California-based brand proves that yes, differences do exist. For one, their jeans are the softest (almost cashmere-like) I have ever tried. And thank goodness they are also moving away from the skinny jean, which has dominated the fashion scene over the last several years thanks to svelte Hollywood starlets. With the guarantee of comfort, a wide array of washes to fit every mood, season and occasion, they may single-handedly get me out of leggings.
Limited-edition products from Naked & Famous Denim, including their collaboration with Momotaro Jeans and their new 26 Oz. Black Weft jean may also be found in store.”
