NEW BRAND: FjällRäven
06/May
The concept behind Fjällräven actually began in 1950. Founder Åke Nordin was 14-years-old trekking the mountains of Örnsköldsvik in Northern Sweden. An outdoor enthusiast, Åke did not like the backpacks available at that time: they were small, uncomfortable, pear-shaped bags. Åke built a wooden frame that improved the distribution of weight across his back and was comfortable to carry more weight. This innovation helped a wider range of people get into outdoor hiking and was the start of Åke’s company. Fjällräven means “Arctic Fox” in Swedish and honours the small predator living in harsh climate of the Swedish mountains.Fast forward to 2011, where Fjällräven has expanded their line to include a series of backpacks for city wear. The Kånken Original was developed 30 years ago for Swedish school children and is the same design used today. The Kånken uses of a unique textile called Vinylon F, a coating of natural fibers with waterproof qualities. As the weave comes in contact with water, the more dense the material becomes.
The Kånken Original along with it’s Kånken Mini version is available in over 15 colours now at Over the Rainbow. It’s a perfect summer gift for city wear or for camp. See the preview below…
